AgKnow to be transferred to new non-profit organization

AgKnow, a farm mental health resource developed to help connect producers with support services, is being transferred to a new non-profit organization following a decision by the Alberta Rural Extension and Community Association (ARECA) to end its involvement in the program.

In a statement released Oct. 2, Alan Hall, executive director of ARECA, said the organization was unable to secure funding to continue operating AgKnow and decided earlier this year to shut down the service.

ARECA is now working with southern Alberta producers Dani Groeneveld and Matt Groeneveld on plans to transfer the AgKnow name, website, and resource materials to a new non-profit organization.

According to the statement, the new organization intends to continue offering AgKnow resources and help farmers and ranchers connect with mental health supports available to the agricultural community.

AgKnow originated from resolutions brought forward through Alberta’s Agricultural Service Boards, which called for mental health supports tailored to farmers and ranchers. Work on the initiative began in 2019 and continued over the following several years.

In February 2026, the ARECA board decided to wind down AgKnow operations. Discussions around transferring the program began in September.

ARECA said it expects the transfer process to be completed in the near future.
